Heart Valve Voice Canada forms new partnership to help raise awareness amongst seniors

In an exciting new partnership, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS), Heart Valve Voice Canada (HVVC), and MediSystem Pharmacy are teaming up to put a spotlight on heart valve disease. This collaboration reflects our joint dedication to increasing awareness and improving early detection of heart valve disease.

In recognition of Heart Valve Disease Awareness Week, September 11-18th, 2023, we are inviting residents at select seniors’ homes across the country to participate in a free heart valve disease educational session and receive a stethoscope check.

Over 1 million Canadians are affected by heart valve disease, yet public awareness of the disease is shockingly low – and the symptoms are often dismissed as a natural part of aging. The good news is that there are effective treatment options, and it can be detected with a simple stethoscope check by a doctor.

As Canada’s population is aging, heart valve disease is on the rise.  The risk of heart valve disease increases significantly after age 65 and reaches 12.5% after the age of 75.

“This partnership will help raise awareness of this common, serious but treatable disease,” says HVVC Managing Director, Ellen Ross.” Learning the symptoms of heart valve disease and the importance of getting a regular stethoscope check, will help save lives.”

CCS, Heart Valve Voice Canada, and MediSystem Pharmacy are determined to create a lasting influence, championing heart health for today and beyond.
